No most guys drive up for the day. Some stay at the campground, others stay up the road at the super 8... I normally book the room(s) right after the first of the year.
hi-boy, its 400 miles round trip, and I would guess that there would be a certain amount of body damage for a full sized rig, due to some narrow pathways, but a skilled driver could get it done with minimal, or no body damage.
But Body damage aside, if you would consider it, you would need to have an idea how good your running gear is.
First time down there, I would assume it might be best to find someone to ride with, and get to know the area, and what to expect.
A lift - lockers and Mudd terrain tires are RECOMENDED if it is wet. It's a big gamble out there. But allot of fun. I have seen a stock unlocked bronco have as much fun as a guy in a really built up jeep. I saw a fancy all crommed up lifted brand new jeep with every bell and hi priced whistle-- blow a tranny with in a few minutes.
Heck I blew 2 lockouts one right after the other Pop-Pop!... and i have seen a bone stock geotracker have a ball!
I plan on driving mine down- and driving it home-- if that means there are a few trails that I watch others do-- then so be it. :-)
mmm, my running gear is good shape! Just not my driving skill. Never done a trail before. It is all stock ford running gear though. I think i will stick to the mud runs. That has been my plan anyway. Run the one in Abilene again. It was a blast!!
before you commit to driving to FT Scott, maybe give Tuttle Creek ORV a try to see if you like it. its mostly the same thing, just closer, and let us know when you are going out, so we can work it out to join in.
I was sooo ticked that day when I drove by and realized that I had completely forgot about it! It was too late in the day to bother going in though. I'll be there next year for sure
