i currently have a superchip in my truck but was looking to ugrade to something that else so that i can change my settings on the fly but dont know what the best programmer for the 7.3 is. any suggestions? also, i hear a lot of people talking about a 6637 upgrade and im not sure what that is, can someone help me out? lol
Welcome to the Forum, there is a huge wealth of knowledge on this site. The 6637 upgrade is an air filter change for much more flow and better filtration. It is a huge looking round filter that takes the place of the original by removing the top half of the air cleaner box and connecting with 4" pipe to the original intake hose. As for a tuner, I went with the DP tuner and really like it. It is shift on the fly and the power difference is impressive. Again, welcome and have fun learning!
If you up grade from your SuperChip to a different tuner, you may have to upgrade some other parts also.
Like a 'transmission'
There are many 'additives' for your truck, that the guys and gals will suggest.
I like my SC and will stay with it.... and I still had to get a new transmission
The SuperChip is probably the reason for your trans failure.
A custom burned chip from any of the big name tuners (Total Diesel Performance, DP Tuner, Gearhead Automotive, Bean's, Swamps, etc) will not only give better power, but also help your trans live longer because they also adjust trans parameters. Superchips, Edge, and other off the shelf programmers all add power without addressing the trans. Plus they are all switch on the fly.
I just got rid of my superchip. I think it had a lot to do with the failure of my trans. Now have a DP Tuner and extremly happy with it so far. Great fuel economy, and power. No problem going 70 and being able to pass someone.

I am NOT 'blaming' the 'SuperChip' for the 'failure' of my transmission.... I think the transmission was doomed to failure by the way that I like to drive my truck. I take Loooong trips and hammer that baby at 75+ mph for hundreds of miles at a stretch. The 'Chip' (or tuner) would have helped me keep those OverDrive Speeds a lot easier than 'stock'. I killed my transmission. What do I have now? A BTS. I fully explained to Brian how I drive and what I have in my truck and what I pull (he had no problem with that). When he torn down my transmission he said that the OD was shot the worse. So... 'I' don't really blame the 'Chip' .... I blame me. How else was I going to talk the wife into letting me have a BTS

The added power from the chip without increased line pressure nuked your trans. Your driving style just accelerated how fast it puked its guts out

My bull dog programmer has a transmission tune and gives you the option to program the transmission or not. It does shift at a little higher rpms and has a better shift than the stock tune. I'm not saying it's better than a chip. I think a lot of transmission failures have a direct correlation with the users right foot.
I have and F-150 now and I am looking for a used diesel but I would like a 1999 to 2007 body style but what diesel do i get. I am all highway and I need a reliable truck with a soild engine what one do i get?

Not to sound ignorant but where are you guys getting your info from, Superchips "Does" adjust shifting, it did for me when I used it and I believe it says that on the box and their website. I'm just glad I didn't blow my trans and I damn sure hope it didn't shorten the life of it in any way.. beer anybody.. This is from their web-site Quality
Not all power is created equally. We use rear-wheel dyno testing to develop and validate all of our power gains. Beware of companies touting “flywheel” dyno numbers – these are tests of the engine only, and don’t take into account the rest of the vehicle. The last time we checked, it’s the whole vehicle you’re interested in driving, not just the engine. Power delivered to the ground through the tires is much more important. We also spend quite a bit of time tuning the automatic transmission shift characteristics. This doesn’t show up as horsepower gain, but you will feel the difference.

I'll have a beer with you Mike. Still digesting the second part....
I had updated mine on a Saturday drove it Sunday and had to parked it Sunday. I sent a message to them about the trans and said they had to redo the update. So I guess they knew something was wrong
