It should come on when key is first turned to on position. Not sure how cold in AZ now. Does the light turn off later? You may want to check things with a meter.

Only one side of the relay is hot from the battery all the time. When you turm the key, the relay should close and the other side becomes hot to the glow plugs. This is the side I tied my GPR LED to.

Yes, you should get voltage to the second large terminal of the GPR when key on. I do not know why you only get voltage after motor fires. I do know the PCM sends a ground to one of the small terminals on the coil for the GPR. Oil temp, outside air temp, a number of things are factored into the PCM sending the ground.

Yes, the GPR gets power to the plugs when you turn your key to the on position. Double check the GPR with a test light to see if your LED is corresponding to the lug on the relay.

gpr

i will have to check it with a test light when i get home from work. if the test light corresponds with led could it be a bad relay, or is it a pcm ground issue sooo confused. thanks for the help.
