I have a 2000 superduty 4wd 4dr diesel, aporx 60,000 miles. I have started experiencing an intermitent high speed vibration..... usually starting at about 70mph. My main mechanic has felt it and can't trace it, then a transmission specialists drove it, felt it... but can't pin point it ... everyone keeps telling me to drive it till it gets worse..... this doesn't make me happy.... can't find any bulletins on hi speed vibrations in the 4x4. We've checked and double checked U-joints .. and still nothing
Since you said it is the 4 door model, you could be experiencing the carrier bearing starting to go out. You may want to check fluid levels in the differentials. Some of the strangest things happen with today's equipment. If it is a u joint, you might see something that looks like rust coming out of one of the joints. Can you feel it in the wheel or just in the seat of your pants?
thanks for the replies ..!!!! Tires have balanced, rotated to see if that effected anything and it didn't. Fluid levels have all been checked and re-checked ..... but the thought of the carrier bearing might be worth revisiting. The vibration is in the floor... and one thing that seems to be effecting its appearance and disappearance has been the arrival of rain and wet roads. If that carrier bearing is getting wet, and then drying out ... getting wet ..ect ect ..... hmmmm ..think we'll go back and take a close look...
