Well i picked up a '86 F250 with a 351w and an auto trans (probably C6). It has a newer 6" suspension lift with a 3" body lift, new 38.5"x12.5x16 swampers on 16x10 Mickey thompson rims. Has a 10K winch hidden in the front bumper. Body is in decent shape, but has been beat up. Got it for $500.
Now....
The motor has a broken timing chain i am told. As it is an 86 it is carbed. The vavle cover has been off for awhile as the people that owned it has passed away 3 yrs now. I do not think that the motor in there would be worth trying to fix. I have a 94+ 351w longblock that is FI in my garage.
Would you take the time to do whatever it is that i would have to do to change the FI motor to carb? or should i just pull all the goodies and scrap the rest. My 89 would look wicked with the lift and tires....
All you need to really do is pull the EFI intake and swap over the carb intake and dizzy to use the EFI motor, add an electric fuel pump and away you go
That pretty much depends on what you want to do... if you want to keep the mechanical pump, then swap the cover, or add a good inline electric pump and wire it up. I am partial to the electric pumps, but that's just me.
its a great deal to be honest wiht you. I come across some once in a while. the guy was going to scrap the truck just to get it out of the yard. The tires are new. just needs a motor hopefully.
what carb should i use? the one thats on it needs rebuilt so i figured i should just get a new one. Its in pretty bad shape. I am taking the stock bottom end F4TE block and putting on the intake from the 86 and a new carb. I will be putting in 1.7 RR and headers to pick up some power.
How much would it cost me to get 350-400 horse out of this motor? I have a FI motor on SD in my 89 that should have about 300 or so and it is pretty torquy on stock tires. With these 38.5, i want to be able to turn them in the mud with out bogging down with a stock 351w idk what gears are in it... Probably 4.10's but you never know. Thats something i need to find out so i know wether to do a gear swap first or not...
