fuel gague wont work

hey guy got in my truck and the gauge wont work for my fuel and were i should look first before riping the tank out and checkin the sending unit 80 f250 4x4

I would check to make sure the gauge is getting the electrical signal from the sending unit before I drop the tank. If the gauge in the cluster is good sounds to me like its time to drop the tank.

My fuel gauge stopped working properly several years ago. At that time I had to drop the tank for something or another, several times (I can't remember why right now). I checked everything out real good every time. Still, the gauge did not function properly. Recently, when I had the instrument cluster out of the dash, I cleaned everything real good. I made sure everything was making good contact, I think I may have even used some steel wool in some places. Then I sprayed it with contact cleaner, and let it dry. After I reinstalled everything, guess what... the gauge was working normally again. Just a thought.
