Brake fluid can be disposed of with the rest of the oil. Its not an issue.

If you find someone with a wast oil burner, all oils can run thru it. This includes veggie oil, motor oil, trans fluid, brake fluid, steering fluid, gear oil. If contaminated with water, the proper set ups will have seperators, but I would let them know first. If its contaminated with gas, then I burn it off. A local garage will take used antifreeze. Some garages around me (especially big truck garages) sell back anti freeze. Then someone cleans it up and sell it for cheap.

Yeah, most city waste water treatment plants will handle antifreeze just fine. The little bugs in the effluent(my gramps told me about that word from his first job out of school) just love antifreeze. So if you are on a city sewer, just flush it down the toilet.

Septic tanks may or may not handle it. The problem is the antifreeze acts like a giant high calorie meal. The bugs over eat and get gas.

I usually let it drain into the city street but now adays we should probably check to make sure the water goes to a treatment plant or does it go to the ocean or lake or...

Most antifreeze is extremely poisonous so dump it where animals and kids cannot drink even a little of it.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

Antifreeze is the only fluid I haven't found a place to dump. WMO can either be burned in my M35A2, or be dumped at AdvanceAuto a few miles from me. I own 3 diesels, 2 big blocks, and a motorcycle...so I go through A LOT of it.

Whenever I had need to change my anti freeze on base at the hobby shop (when I was changing the oil, anyway), I was told to put it in with the oil. I thought it went to the same place?

Many of the oil recyclers will flip out if you mix oil and anti-freeze, as that combination is considered a hazardous material. If their people are not hazmat certified, they have to pay another company to come in and deal with it.

i use small amounts of waste oil around the house foundation as an insecticide.
old gas is a very good weed and poison ivy killer.

you need to be very careful with antifreeze. animals like the sweet taste, but the alcohol in the antifreeze will kill them withing days from kidney failure.

I have a couple of gallons of diesel fuel that I flushed out of my fuel system doing maintenance on my truck, I was wondering if it would be OK to throw that in with the furnace oil. I know using heating oil in a diesel engine is a bad idea, because it will clog up your injectors. But is it Ok to get rid of old diesel, motor oil and transmission fluid by throwing it in with the furnace oil?

Diesel is ok, the used oils will crap up your furnace or clog the filter.

I drop mine off at a muffler shop that uses one of these systems to heat. Got about 10-gallons ofthe stuff to drop off soon.

Old gasoline you can burn up inside a steel trash can. Using care, I burned up about a 1/2 gallon of old 2-cycle mix recently.

Old gas, as long as there isn't water in it, can be run through your car. In the rare occasion I wind up with unused gas here, I just run about 1-3gallons per tank in my car, van, truck whatever I have on the road at the time.
