1979 302 cid engine E250 duraspark specs?
The symptom is it is not starting. It will crank fine. Verified the timing was on, checked for fuel pressure and fuel squiring into carb via accelerator jets.
The ignition system provides spark. But it is a orange spark and not very strong. The owner has had the duraspark ignition model replaces a year ago. I ohmed out the coil it reads 1.5 on the primary and 19.5k on secondary..which is the same as the coil at the parts store. The distributor pickup was ohmed out and cross tested the three wires on its pig tail. Got 600 ohms and something like 240k ohms. Do these numbers seem right? I think one of the wires is distributor ground while the two other are for the coil pickup.
Are there testing procedures for the duraspark system? Mitchel DIY and Alldata do not go this far back unless you order one disk from them.
Again, its a orange spark. I do not have a KV tester to test the streagnth of the voltage. Should the spark be blue?
Lastly, distributor is siezed in the block..aka, will not turn. Should I use my blow torch or other idea to loosen it? Hate to do so if there is a seal in the distributor.
And if the pickup coil is bad, I have to remove the reluctor. It looks pressed on correct? Would have to pull that off, then pickup coil.
