I have a 94 XLT supercab with 2.3l and have had basically no problems and am nearing 200K miles. As far as the v6 It is also reliable but I have not driven one for extended periods.

Not sure about '93's or '94's, but I've known several people, including myself, with a '95 or newer that have the "Interior Dome Light/Windshield Wiper Ghost" problem... But you get used to it.

A freind of mine has a '94, 3.0, automatic, and I've never heard him complain about any problems.

what do you know about the 94? I own one and i love it, wouldn't trade it for anything!! The only problems i had with it since i bought mine was the front axle shafts (u-joints) needed replaced, and also the upper and lower ball joints, but other than that, its a great truck, but that all depends on who had it before, and what they did to it (or didn't do)

My stepdad bought a used 94 Ranger 4.0L V6 a few years ago. Truck ran great, no problems whatsoever, gave it to his parents around 85k miles and they've been driving it for a couple years with no problems. His dad has only good things to say about it, and (when he see's me changing oil or working on my truck) makes comments about how great the 4.0L engine is...

The only 2 POSSIBLE problems that I've seen alot in these posts are;
The potential to crack heads on V6 engines if they overheat even ONCE.
and;
If 4wd with switch on the dash, the tendency for the front hubs to fail.
I have an 85 2.8 with 200K miles, and it's still going.

The 2.9L engine is the only one I have heard of with the head cracking problem and they were not available in 93-94.

Ken, I didn't know it was only the 2.9 I apparently misunderstood something I read. So my old 2.8 doesn't possess this tendency?? Nor a newer 4.0??

That is correct, the 2.9 is the engine with the weak heads.

I have a 94 3.0 4x4. I bought it brand new, now have about 208K. I have changed the water pump, and am currently on my third rear end. I am going with 8.8 this time. I blew out two sets of 7.5" ring gear. I do lots of 4 wheelen', that might have something to do with it.
I love it, wont ever get rid of it.

I drive a '94 3.0 5-spd 4x2. It's got little shy of 115k an I've had no problems here.
Just keep fluids at the right levels (and in the right places ).

What part of 'Bama are ya from there, ace324?

I had a 94 ranger for a year and the only problem I had with it was the spedomitor would act weird every once in a whyle. I'd be going down the highway and @ like 55-60mph, the needel would bounce up and down so I wouldn't know my exact speed. Other than that, the truck ran great!
