I have a 98 F-150 V6 4.2L, and I want to get a better exhaust system to improve my mileage, sound and performance. I see that a lot of people choose Flowmaster and i thought about buying a Gibson. Does anyone know of which kind i should get and if it will make a difference? Thanks.
From what I have read, asked, and experienced the cost of buying a new exhaust system will probably never pay for itself in terms of fuel savings. Having said that I sure love the look and sound of the system I put on my 5.4 a few months ago. The 4.2L is a hard one to do if you are going for sound. They say it sounds like angry bees in a can! I believe there are some sights that have sound clips if you are interested. Flowmaster and Borla. I have pics of my system on my gallery if you are interested. The best info I got was going down to an old guy who has been doing exhaust for years. He was great to talk to, and explained everything I would need to know. Good luck, Levi
They worked for me, but they took a long, long time to download.
Diesel Dummy,
no offense meant to you, but is it possible to respond to a post here without just regurgutating the same reply over and over. We understand you are for the Ravin mufflers. Try to post your thoughts and reasonings behnd it to better educate the uninformed.
ok, have you ever checked out a ravin muffler , there very well built and there "Z" wave inners really make deep sound, i have installed all types of mufflers and hands down these are the best sounding i have heard. plus you get to be different seeing as everyone has flowmasters.
Not everyone has Flowmasters. I have MagnaFlow. I agree there is far too many Flowmasters around and they all sound the same. Hence, my opting for MagnaFlow, which is a totally different sound. Deeper and more rumble to it.
I have looked at the Ravin technology, and they do seem like quality units. I am considering what to put on the wife POS S-10 now and will give them a look and see how they measure up. I did notice that on the 95 F-150 on their site that it sounded vaguely like the Mustangs do. I have always liked that sound. The 95 Blazer, which would be comparable to the S-10 sounded a little raspy though. But better than a lot of the other I have heard. Wish they would tell you which motors each of these unit had for a better comparison.
