There are some wiring differences. The single alternator voltage regulator is powered by the battery light circuit through the instrument cluster. The dual alternator systems were wired to the PCM, so that the PCM could individually shut off one alternator.
So you'd be looking at figuring out the wiring differences and changing them. And somehow updating the PCM programming to control the alternators.
