It depends on how much it smokes and how cold the temp in your area is. If its not a whole lot of smoke, then u may be having a glow plug issue and will continue to worsen as colder weather comes in...
Do not go by the WTS(wait to start) go by your volt gauge the glow plugs will stay on for up to 2 mins watch the volt gauge when it drops then crank see if that helps clear the smoke

Glow plugs are there to assist with starting and cylinder temperatures to cause ignition.
If you wait till the glow plugs are off and crank the motor, the first crank will blow all the hot air right out the exhaust.
If I try and start mine that way, unless its hot outside, it wont even start.

Smoke on startup is a sign of a bad glow plug array or UVCH burnt pin/harness, or a bad Glow plug relay.
However, with big injectors, you'll smoke no matter what. I have new injectors, new glow plugs and a stancore GPR, mine smokes every time I start it.

That is correct, the glow plugs are to assist with warmups.
In my opinion, you technically shoudln't even idle up the truck until the glow plugs are off.
