Sorry friend but that is contradictory. Reputable to me is at least a 30 day warranty.
Please tell us the dealer gave you two prices, one including a warranty and the other price as is and you chose as is.

My apologies for not offering you real help.

Welcome to the PSD family, lots of info and pictures on basic fixes but more importantly diagnostics...I have learned a lot in a year and a half ( still cant put a rear seal in hub yet)...
Since purchasing a 2002 Excursion have had injector cups 3 injectors, head gaskets and the 8000 dollar stock entertainment center stolen!!!! Yes peeps!!! its 8g's from Ford!!!!

But, shes rolling and got 400 psi on all cylinders!!!

Needless to say, read here every chance you can and much will be learned.

Very true. I guess reputable is not the correct word to use here. I will rephrase it. He generally sells reliable vehicles. The others I have bought over the years have been pretty much perfect. This one just is not. The dealer only offered one price. I am going to call him again today. If he doesnt offer to fix it, I will immediately go through arbitration with him. That, and I will never buy from him again obviously.

Just an update.....

Today, the truck refused to even start. it sounded like a knocking piece of crap when it was cranking ( like it was firing wrong). So, I bought a new fuel filter, put it on, and no difference. Then I took a cab back to the parts store and bought a CPS, installed it, and it started.

It immediately started, but sounded like complete crap. Missing like crazy, jumping, sputtering, etc. So, I cut it off and then restarted it. after I restarted it, it jumped up in idle to about 2200rpm, then immediately went back down to normal range. It has been running fine ever since. I let it run for about 45 minutes with no problem, then took it around the block and no problems found. So, I guess it was the cps.

So, I guess it was the CPS? Does all this sound normal?

Could be, but I'd still check that Under Valve Cover Harness (UVCH), especially if the stumbling returns.

parts store CPSs are a big no no, only ford OEM CPSs should be used. There have been may documented cases of parts store CPSs causing problems or flat out not working. Dont get me wrong they may get you home in a pinch but I would pick up a factory CPS and keep the parts store one for a backup "get me home" at most.

The CPS could have been the problem but I would still be looking at the UVCH (under valve cover harness), the valve cover gaskets are reusable so it's free other than time to check them.

I have been hearing that around. I will get a factory replacement one and throw the other in the glove box. I plan on doing the UVCH this weekend anyway. Should be a good learning experience for me.

LMAO. Yup, look ma, no hands! Well, since I know what it is, it's just easier this way, lol. Thank you for the welcome. I am hoping this truck does okay for me after the CPS ( look, another acronym!) today. I have a 500 mile round trip to complete Wednesday... So, wish me luck!

BTW, I am going to purchase an AE tomorrow, but I found about 4 different ones. Price really isn't an issue, so which one do I want. I see them from $250, up to $1,500.00. What am I looking for here?

On the intake you could do the 6637 filter for cheap. Around $50 if you buy the filter from NAPA. Do a search on the 6637.

this is the one you are looking for Clay link from a forum supporter. He has some of the best customer support available and some of the best prices. You need the AE with the "enhanced Ford bundle"
