On a 7 mile 7% grade started down at 60 mph, 11k 5ver in tow. After getting on the brakes truck began down shifting and rpm going up. It was holding 70 mph 3rd gear and 3000 to 3200 rpm. Does this sound rigth, rpms seemed alittle high as though the engine brake was not working. This was before the flash. Will have to wait till next year to check how it does now. bastech

The braking is more effective at higher engine speed

Like I posted earlier, the key for me is to start at 50mph before going down the grade. 11K is enough to over power the downshifting and engine braking on a good grade. 3200 is pretty high but normal in that situation, problem is, you can tell that you will have to pulse the brakes when you run out of gears and rpm's. But hey, it's normal. Steep grades do that to heavy weight on wheels.

I always use the tow/haul when pulling my 5th wheel.

I don't think there is any viable reason to use anything but tow/haul when towing. You lose too much functionality when switching to manual, and the truck seems to be able to shift just fine in tow/haul (you can even lock out 6th gear)... so you don't really gain anything by using manual. I honestly think the only reason the Manual shift is there is to appease those who might have wanted a stick shift.

My point is this: use the tow/haul feature for towing. it works brilliantly.
