i am looking at replacing it to get if off the floor cause i already have to replace it and i know that if i dont remount it i will be replacing it in a couple years cause i dont plan on babying it
Well, even wearing steel toed boots I don't think I could ever hit one of the switches hard enough frequently enough to wear it out in short order. The truck doesn't really lend itself to being converted over easily to the turn signal lever style. You could probably just rig up a toggle switch on the dash somewhere but it would likely be fairly unhandy.
I think most of these trucks, and including millions of other cars and trucks are still rocking their original high-beam switch.
Consider, that unless you decide to run headlight relays the headlight switch and highbeam switch have FULL power running thru them. Which means, whatever you decide to replace it with (toggle, button etc) needs to handle 70+ watts of cointinuous power.
My dad's 46 Chevy pickup still has the original switch. The lights SUCK but the switch works fine. He did have to replace the main headlamp switch though, the original lasted about 50 years.
