9" rear end locker

I've seen a lot of used NASCAR parts like this on ebay: FORD 9" DETROIT H CASES LOCKER,NASCAR,UMP IMCA NHRA!!!!: eBay Motors (item 280587950827 end time Nov-18-10 06:54:25 PST) It specifies that it "will fit a case with a 3.250" bearing seat." Is there any way to know if my rear end has a 3.250" bearing seat without tearing it apart to measure? It's a 3.25 ratio (for now), 31 spline rear end. ...and, anyone have any experience with any of these used NASCAR parts? Thanks!

Your diff does NOT have a 3.25 bearing set. That size is aftermarket ONLY.

Next becareful buying those nascar detroit lockers, the H case is NOT a street unit. (you need the B case) Only one side is a locker in a lot of those, the other side works like a spool (don't need to worry about it when you only turn left, works different)

Stock is either 2.89 or 3.062.

3.25 bearings are strictly aftermarket cases.

Got it. Thanks! ...so basically, I'm not getting traction in this thing without spending $4-500 or so on the rear end.

Doing a quick search on eBay netted several small and medium bearing detroit lockers in the $150-$250 range.

But, I have to wonder, if you're complaining about the cost of aquiring the locker, not knowing what size bearings the 9 inch came with OEM, who is setting up the gears for you? That's is also going to add to the cost.

Plus, gaskets, oil, sealant etc.

Well, I keep going back and forth. At first, my plan was to find a junkyard center section, or even complete rear end, and completely rebuild it myself... bearings, axle seals, etc, with the gears (3.89 or 4.10) and carrier I wanted. I figured I'd find one of those online articles about setting up the gears based on the pattern left by the marking compound.

Funds are slow though, so lately I've been leaning more toward doing one part at a time. Again, setting up the gears myself though.
