Tightening shackle and leaf spring nuts and bolts

Im in the middle of replacing my rear spring mount and I am about to start putting this thing back together. Is there any specified torque or process in tightening the large nuts and bolts on the leaf springs and shackles? Should I leave them loose and tighten them up once the truck is on the ground and the suspension is loaded?

thanks!

Jeff

Tighten them after the suspension is loaded w the weight of the truck on it. As for torque. Just tighten them. They are almost 5/8 bolts.YOU cant overtighten them

Cool thanks guys, I just finished up, took pics along the way, I will post up a new thread outlining the repair, didnt really see one when I was searching.

I just hit them with the gun till I knew they were good and tight.

Not a good idea. It should of had the weight on it so it will not bind. lock washed are not a good idea either, should of used lock nuts

Yup that'd be me, as brad pointed out no need to actually torque them unless you want to and yea do it with the tires on the ground and suspension loaded.

I wouldn't use extra hardware like lock washers especially where I live, not up to the task and tend to rust away fairly fast leaving the fastener loose, where the self locking nut wouldn't be effected.
