Ok, 2000 f250 with new rebuilt 7.3 with perfect compression numbers. I have rebuilt injectors with stage 2 nozzels, oil has been changed since rebuilt engine. I am getting a pretty good amount of smoke coming with normal acceleration from a stop. Truck starts and runs like new with perfect compression and no blowby. Just really smokey...... I have lil over 2k on engine since rebuilt and has done this since rebuilt was put in, just thought it was my injector making this happen. also truck has no smoke on cold starts since rebuilt engine and has been in the mid 30s here last couple of weeks. Truck fires right up runs perfect with no romps or anything like that with older injectors on cold starts. I just can't catch a break. I have an autoenteguity and have ran buzz and contribution test and come back fine. Wish there was a way to cut out each injector to check them while going down the road....
Does the smoke smell like diesel? If it smells like diesel an injector may be sticking open and diesel is being pumped out during the exhaust stroke. But I would think that it would also be dong some smoking at idle and not just on acceleration. The only way I can think of to determine if it is one injector is by using a breakout box.

Did you do a Rotational Velocity test?
smells like diesel, and only during accel from what I can tell. No smoke at all during idle at all. What does the roataional velocity test confirm, still very new to my ae. thanks for help by the way

On the "live meter" drop down list you can check off each cylinder for rotational velocity. 8 meters showing 1 cylinder each. Ideally all cylinders would show a Zero %. It's actually easier to open the "Live Data Grid" and check off each cylinder for RVT and watch from that screen. Not sure if a sticky injector will show up on this test but if one is way off it would be suspicious. Run the test and post the numbers.
I have never done any trouble shooting for your symptoms so this is trial & error. We may both learn smething.
Any other ideas guys. Someone else must have had this problem before.
Ok, I did run that test. I have read many threads on certain cps causing to fail cc test with 3 and 8 cyl. On those two I read 2.8-2.9% and all the others looked fine. I am beginning to think this truck hates me.. lol I have put over 6k into this thing in the past few months to still have issues......

You must have a gray CPS. Hard to tell what is going on with CCT and RVT with that CPS. I do know that the latest CPS from Ford will pass CCT if there are no real problems.
The dark colored CPS on the right is the latest.
Another question: Is there any oil in the tail pipe? or just soot?
nope I have the one on the right , got it from international about 8-9 months ago. Just soot in the tailpipe.
I could never get the CCT to pass using the gray CPS. 8 always failed and 3 intermittently. With the DU-87, both that I tested, CCT passed every time, repeatedly. The velocity tests were also better on 3 & 8. The last time I ran it 3 was 0.0% and 8 was 0.4%. 2 was the weird one at 2.7%.
No oil in tailpie means no small oil leak in turbo so that is ruled out.
would low fuel pressure be able to cause a smoking problem? But then you would think if I had low fuel pressure I would have a rough running truck or bucking of some sorts. Truck runs perfect and strong so I am clueless.

You're right, not a fuel pressure issue.
One way to tell if an injector is acting up is with a no-touch laser thermometer. Aim it along each exhaust manifold and sometimes a bad injector will show up as a bit cooler or hotter area where that cylinder exhausts into the manifold. Don't know if this will work but if fuel is being exhausted there may be a slightly cooler temp at the exhaust manifold for a particular cylinder. Worth a try if you have access to a laser thermometer. Other then a break-out box I can't think of any other way to diagnose a single cylinder/injector problem.
I have always meant to buy a no-touch thermometer at harbor freight but when i'm there I forget. Closest one to me is over 80 miles.
