Hows it going guys (and girls) my names mike,im new to the forum but have really been interested in 50's pickups. I currently own a mitsubishi galant and a 1979 Trans Am but im looking to find an old f-100 to make my new project. I live in Rochester, NY,if anyone could point me in a good direction it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance
How much of a project, or better yet how much do you want to spend on getting it going and how long do you want to take doing it? Obviously the more finished the truck the more you are going to pay but the sooner you will be able to play. Stock or modified?
Just as a rule of thumb (very subjective) for a non running truck to rebuild it with some safety improvements (slippery slope that) it takes around two years and $ 20,000.00 so calculate that backwards and you can buy a complete running truck for less. Unless of course you are a masochist like most of us and enjoy the misery of construction.
well I go to school for autobody so the condition doesnt have to be anywhere near perfect, just a solid, stock base. I have no problem setting aside as long as I need to work on it because it is my passion haha thanks for the welcomes and information
Start surfing ebay collector cars under ford under pickups. They list the location and condition of the trucks for sale. There are always some in your area. This will give you a general idea of what is available, depending on what you are looking for and how far you are willing to travel to look or haul home.
Welcome to FTE,
Also I would highly recommend buying whatever you can find with the least amount of rust, even if it's more money, less work and headache with panels etc.
Also really thoroughly inspect the frames as sometimes they get cracks and or fixes that are not really up to par!
there are probably quite a few trucks out there to choose from right now too.
I found a couple 58, 59 60's trucks just this week for sale that are not advertised, I would love to have a 59 F100 4X4 but too many projects as is ! have you narrowed the year models down to what you think you'd like to have?
Thank you for the welcome..yes I think ive narrowed it down to 53-56 I like those the most. Ive checked ebay and craigslist theres nothing close to me haha
I have a 1955 F100 originally from California. This has been a long term frame off with some work completed and a lot left to finish. Send anemail for more info if interested
