4in. Downpipe

Has anyone had issues with the downpipe not tightening up on the exaust housing. I tightened the clamp as tight as I could and without the tailpipe attached I can still move the downpipe back and forth like it's on a hinge. My trucks 4 door long bed dually and when it flexes it hits on the head and makes all kinds of horrible racket. I'd love to get this fixed . Help is appreciated!!!

Hey David. I had a problem with that clamp and striped the threads on it. I bought a new one at Ford (37.00), but I needed it then.

Can you come to my shop Saturday, around 1:30? We can do the stuff we talked about and see what we can do with that downpipe.

just the answer I was looking for. Should I get a new clamp or wait and see what we find?

If your clamp is not striped, then I don't think you will need a new one.

If the alignment is dead-on with your downpipe to the turbo, then it's the clamp.

I had the same problem with mine. The threads on the clamp wore off and I didn't know it. I didn't touch it for two years, then one day I started smelling exhaust in the cab. Looked under the hood and saw black exhaust streaks on the downpipe right under the clamp. Looked at the clamp, and I could rotate it around by hand. It finally gave up on me and snapped loose.

It might just be the nut on the clamp is slightly stripped. They are a metric m27 or m28 iirc. You could also double nut it and use some locktite.

Thanks guys. Rick and I will see what we can do. We also plan on doing some data loging on my truck and my company truck and see why the company truck seems to run so much better than mine.

My threads are completely fine but it tightens down almost all the way. I was surprised my didn't leak after putting it back together last time.

I just put in a 4" mbrp downpipe and tightened the crap out of the stock vband clamp. It hung tight and I drove it to the muffler shop like that. Nothing else held it but the v-band clamp.

I suggest getting a new v-band clamp.

lol. I drove around with my downpipe hanging from the v-clamp for like a week before finally putting an "exhaust" on.
