I really don't think that your CPS is the problem. It was running when you 'ran oil of fuel'. I would put the old one back in.

You spray a little either in the air intake and it fired. (I have done the same when it was cold and my GPR was out, only a very short milli second blast). How many times did you try this. One, two, three? It will run until this is burned off. This will give it a chance to get fuel to the injectors. (This is what I would do if it was my truck, only, not yours. I have a can of ether that 'says' it is for diesels) Is the fuel filter bowl full and do you have fuel pressure or is something clogged up? I believe that this points to a fuel issue and not electrical.... (next time never let the truck run out of fuel)

Yes, the STEALERship... Here's that part for $285
1999 Ford Econoline Super Duty Injector Driver Module - GB

I couldn't find it at partsguyed.com - but I'm not good at searching there...

Listen, for $360 you can get an AE:
Riffraff Diesel: Total Ford Enhanced Bundle

Another scantool option is $250 and no PC required (not as many features, but does the same diagnostic tests and displays engine parameters, etc)
Aeroforce Technology Inc | Products - Interceptor
I have to admit I've been waiting for mine for a looooong time - dunno whats up with this company...

With this tool, you could have diagnosed your problem EXACTLY the way the dealer did - while it sat right where it broke. Then, with help from your friends here at FTE, known exactly what parts to 'fix'. The IDM takes about 5min to change and only needs a screwdriver and a couple of sockets for tools...

Meanwhile, please ask dealer how they diagnosed that IDM was bad. and please don't use starting fluids in your PSD unless it is an emergency. It is Russian Roulette. The timing in a diesel is based on when the injection event takes place. This is very controlled to prevent early detonation which can increase cylinder pressures to deadly levels. With explosive vapors, there is no control and the vapors can ignite at the wrong time and break things. There are better/safer ways to diagnose your problems.

I was searching and was finding IDMs for far less then the dealer. Ok this is what they called and told him (nephew). The IDM is bad and the part is $500 and labor will be $600. Well if it only takes 5-10 minutes that pretty good money. The recall on the cps has never been done and the cruise had a recall as well. I we keep you informed as it does seem to be lots of money.

Your nephew can change this out in a few minutes (if this is the problem, which I am not sure of).

On the 7.3 main thread page, on the right side, 1/4 down from the top is a 'button' to 'search this Forum.

type in your problem and symptoms and see what comes up. type in IDM reference and see what comes up.

There are many guys on here more knowledgeable about this that can help you out. 'If' the IDM is the problem. Get your truck away from the Stealership and fix it yourself. These guys will walk you through it and save you hundreds of dollars.

What ever the 'problem' is, it is fixable at home. You don't need to take it to the 'dealer'....

you don't want to spend 500 or 1,000 dollars because of a loose wire a bad solenoid. (or a popped fuse)

If you get the 'recall' for the CPS done, ask them for the 'old one' to put in the glove box.

He went and picked his truck this afternoon. $880.63 for the module $150 for labor $20 for materials (I love that charge) $57.78 tax. $1108.41 later he got to drive it home.....Asked for the old IDM and they said there was a $105 core-charge.

Where are you located? Hopefully one of the members here can help you diagnose it.
