Stretch tires?

Can 17" tires be used or 17.5" wheels? I have '60 f350 dually running gear on my '59 250, the rims are 17.5 6-lug, there's almost no 17.5 tires available, just wondering if I found a set of 17" tires used for a good price could they be used on my rims for a while until I'm ready to shell out $1,500 for brand new tires.

Obviously les schwab isn't going to mount them up like that but a buddy has a tire machine and I'm just wondering if this would work.

I know 1/2 inch doesn't seem like much but with tires, it's quite a bit. Likely you will break the cords around the bead area trying to stretch the bead that extra 1/2 inch.

I've had tires that were the correct size but tight, start tearing the bead apart when mounting.

Perhaps find a free or very cheap well used 17" tire and give it a shot, see what happens! The style of the wheel could make it possible. No sense in shelling out for good tires and find out it won't work.

DO NOT DO THIS! It's not gonna work, and potentially VERY dangerous!

Does the rim say it fits 17" tires? No? Then don't use them. That's a pretty critical dimension.

As most said "do not do this". Invest some time trying to find some 17" rims for your truck. I know this could be expensive but it would be worth it not having the headache of finding 17.5" tires every couple years. These are not very common sizes.

I concur with above post. DO NOT DO THIS. You will be $$$ ahead in the long run to just buy 17" wheels. The tires will be much less expensive (more choises too!) possibly even to the point of paying for your new 17" wheels!
