1979 F250 Camper Special Lariat super cab long bed
460 with a collapsed piston
C6 auto
2wd
Personally I think I got a steal of a deal, paid $650 for it. Going to be towing it down on Sunday. This will be my new truck, and the 78 250 custom that I have will be parted out.
Since you'll be pulling that 460, have you thought about stroking it to a 557?
Actually we're not sure if its a collapsed piston. There is a knock, and 90% of the stuff coming out the tailpipe is steam, so we were thinking that the block might be cracked, and the cooling system is draining into the cylinders.
And I don't plan to. Being a high schooler, I am worried about the cost of gas. Just going to be getting a new block.
Nice looking truck & sweet deal on it. Looks like it will be a good one. What is wrong with it besides the engine?
There is a bit of surface rust behind the gutters on either side, and I need to manufacture a new headliner out of it. The guy who sold it just needed it gone, so he settled on $650
I am now strongly believing that I have a cooling system leak. I filled the radiator tank yesterday, and now its bone dry. And, when I pulled this oil dipstick out, it was coated with a thick, yellowish white goop.... going to strip the top end to check and see if there is water in the cylinders
YUK!!!! I was refering to the 16.5" wheels of course. Looks like a nice solid truck. Good luck!
Are you kidding? I'm not a fan of those types of wheels either, but they are the nicest looking set of turbines I've seen in a long time!
I agree with the head gasket diagnosis, but if I'd bought that truck for that price, I'd be curious as to just how much information the PO didn't want to tell me. I'd yank the motor and put it on a stand and go through it. Anyone else notice something different about the AC compressor?

Not knocking the style, purely spoken from a tire salesman's point of view.
