After several visits to 2 dealers ,I think they finally fixed my high speed vibration. The first claimed they could not find anything wrong. I put a set of Michelins on and this just about got rid of the vibration. The problem on my truck was the driveshaft. They replaced it and it seems to be allright. They don't check them for balance, they just take a new one and slap it on. If one comes from the factory out of balance, they don't know either way because they don't a balancing machine and they won't send it out.

It sucks that you had to go through all that trouble but I'm glad they fixed it!

flat rate techs don't get paid to fix, they get paid to replace. Time is money!!

>flat rate techs don't get paid
>to fix, they get paid
>to replace. Time is money!!
>What about my time and money??? 4 visits to dealer,4 times off work, over $600 for new tires, plus over 1 year of aggravation because the flat rate tech can't figure out what the problem is!!I can unbolt and bolt on a new part but that does not make me a mechanic. Is that why they call them flat rate techs and not mechanics?

It had to be the dealers you went to, where they small dealers in the middle of nowhere or were they big busy dealers? This does make a difference. They should have been able to tell the difference been a driveshaft vibration and any other vibration normally driveshaft vibrations are distinctive. How many miles were on it. The reason I say they just replace something is ford warranty times are TERRIBLE it doesn't pay to ck the shaft balance. You pinpoint something and go from there. It's unfortunate you had to waste so much time and money. There has been articles in the papers, etc. about the warranty times and how they affect not only the tech but the cust. sometimes you run into a problem you can't quite figure out, so some techs. just start replacing because they know the whole time they are losing money. Hopefully you won't have to go through anything like that again
