What are people with 56 c.o.e. using for door seals? MY idea was to use conventional seals & cutting & splicing them around the fender notch , but then it occurred to me that they are probably to short to do this . Could possibly use a section of different seal to do this. Any other ideas?

Yep, (but it's probably BS) it’s my understanding that most of the reproduction door seals are a pain, to hard, won’t collapse, etc. Nifty fifties makes a hollow seal kit for the 53-56 that apparently is the cats meow! I would get a kit (or two) and cut and slice? (told you, just BS).
I have some weatherstripping from a '67 fairlane that is in great condition(the car was allegedly restored at some point). I have just under enough for both doors, but it is too thick in some spots and may give me some trouble, I'll figure it out.
My point is you may want to take a trip to your local Pick-a-Part and basically salvage some from other late model cars until you have enough length for your application.
It's sort of jury-rigged, but it's probably very cheap and you'll be able to physically feel and see just what you'll be putting on your truck.
Do you have a piece of the old weatherstripping? There are places that sell it by the foot, you just need to match up the profile of the old with the new.Go to an auto upholstery shop,or similar, they might be able to match it up.
The a fore mentioned stiffness of weatherstripping, even the better quality brands like Carpenters, lessens over time.I had to nearly slam my doors at first. After a month or so,it had settled down nicely.
Aready have a set of 56 conv. seals from Carpenter. Just wanted to see if anyone with a 56 c.o.e. has come up with a better idea. Getting a good seal around the vent window area on 56 doors I think might be a problem with anything other than the correct seal. Was hoping someone else who has already went through this on a 56 c.o.e. would come along. Don't want to butcher a new set of seals until I see other options. I guess I should pull a door off and do some test fitting. Any ideas are greatly apriciated.
I found some weatherstrip at Pep Boys that worked really well. It is hollow bulb and is a peel-and-stick type. It squashes to almost nothing where the door gap was tiny and filled huge gaps. I really like it.

You know why? Because the repro w/strips are the same as the w/strips bought at the Ford parts counter, which were not the same as came on the vehicles!
The original factory installed w/strips were almost flat, so the doors would close properly, but the parts counter/repro w/strips are fatter.
At one time, parts counter w/strips came with an instruction sheet on how to install the w/strips properly, but that practice "died off" around 1973.
I doubt DC or anyone else has a copy of that instruction sheet. I don't either, but remember the process.
