TEMP GUAGE FOR 52 F1

Anybody out there got an extra temp guage that will fit the guage cluster in a 52 F1 truck they want to part with. Mine kept blowing the fuse and found out why yesterday one of the post screws came out of the back of the guage. I had an old one and put it in but it doesn't work stays on hot and doesn't go to cold when key is turned on. I was wondering also if maybe I could sodlier the post back in the back of the guage and also do the same to the small wire inside the guage. Has anyone done this before and it worked?
Thanks for anything you can do,
Lbrauer

thanks Julie I have one coming from e-bay that I hope is a good one from what the decription says. Me and those temp guages don't get alone to good it seems. I don't know if I tighten them to tight or what. I hope to get the old truck back on the road soon.
Thanks again Julie your the best.

The one is coming and I will be very gentle with this one. I'm always afraid I don't have the wire tight enough. I am going to be as carefull as I can with this one when I put it in.
Thanks for all your input Julie.

Finger tight and 1/8 turn is a good rule of thumb Larry!

I will understand that for sure Julie. I have messed up more things tighting them to tight but to me they don't feel that tight. Know what I mean?
Thanks Julie

Well Julie I got the temp guage from e-bay and put it in truck but as my luck has it when the key is turned on it doesn't go to cold but when you start the truck it slowly goes down and comes right back up. I changed the wires on the back around thinking I had the reducer wire on the wrong stud and didn't make a difference in the guage. Do you happen to know what might be wrong or did I purchase a bad guage.
Thanks as always for the responce,
Larry Brauer

Oh Larry, I gotta feel bad for you! I've never seen anyone have so much trouble with these!

The slow move to "C" isn't unusual for a 6 volt gauge especially with a voltage reducer.

Your other gauge worked ok until the stud broke off right?

Take the gauge out and test it.

Take four 1.5 volt AA batteries and touch them end to end - negative to positive - as in a flashlight.

With a seperate wire connected to each gauge post, touch one wire end to the positive end of the stack of batteries and the other wire to the negative end of the stack of batteries. The gauge should creep to "C." Then take one battery out, touch them back together and retest. The needle should move a little toward "H." If it does it's ok.

Let me know what happens.

I will try that Julie and let you know what I find out. I would like to know how you turned your temp guage into a mechanical one from the original one in your truck. I thought I might try that and just run one from one side of the engine.
Thanks for the responce Julie,
Larry Brauer
