just bought an 01 excursion with a v 10. are there any controllers or upgrades that would help with gas mileage.or are they worth it. it has 140 on it , thank's looking foward to some info.... peter..
peter, as a fellow new user willing to share my experience I can attest to the following- I posted a similar question and the deafening crickets were underwhelming... i recommend doing some searches in the excursion forum and again in your engine's forum for more detailed discussions. They are out there and ready for you to find. Good luck and don't be afraid to post with a more specific title.
theres not going to be much you can do for MPG its a V10 and 8000 lbs truck. expect 8-10mpg city and 10-14mpg highway kinda just the way it is.
goodluck with the new truck, you will enjoy it i'm sure
Thats pretty spot on. I picked up a 2004 v10 limited 4x4 Excursion September 1 and have gotten 9.3,9.4, and 9.6 mpg on the last three tanks. All around town.
(For some reason the previous owner of my 2004 installed a set of load range "C" tires. Technically they can handle the 8900 gvwr (7400 empty + 1500 payload) of the EX but sidewall says max psi of tire is 45psi and the Ex calls for 50 psi front 55 psi rear. While a load range "E" tire would weigh more I believe a higher psi will allow for less sidewall flex/smaller contact patch/less drag/better mpg....... A few years back I drove my friends 2000 Limited v10 4x4 Excursion to Florida. I towed a Jeep Cherokee on a tow dolly down and towed empty tow dolly back. Before leaving from PA I installed new Champion truck plugs, k&n drop in filter, and set tires to sidewall max of 80psi. I got 15mpg down and 16mpg on the way back with tow dolly only. Cruise control all the way between 55mph-65mph)
i've had 3 V10 4x4 excursions this summer and all got the same mpg nomatter what. ofcourse my driving style doesnt help mpg any but thats about the best you can expect.
