Hey guys just wanted to share our New to us X we just purchased. 04 X 6.0L EB 2wd.
Sorry about the crappy cell phone pics.
Couple of questions though. We took the truck from TX to MO this past weekend. We got 17.8 MPG on the way up to MO and 16.8 (hand figured)on the way back to TX. While in MO I changed the Fuel Filters and air filter. little windy on the way home but not terrible. The average speed was probably between 65 and 70. The truck is stock. What can I do to get up to the 20 Hwy mpg i have heard people claim on here? I am planning on gettting a tuner and turn off the EGR valve and getting it tuned for MPG's, but I was hoping for a better baseline.?.? Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
Troy
I think your mileage calculations are about right. I had an 03 that got about 18 - 19 mpg under "best" conditions. Once got 21 mpg with a big tail wind. My 05, however, is only about 17.5 mpg at best. If you have a headwind, it will go down by 5 - 10%. Run at 2000 RPM for best efficiency vs. speed. I think this is right at 70 mph indicated.
If there is a tuner out there that would gain 15% on highway, I would definitely be interested as well.
The mileage sounds low for a stock 2wd. Our 05 4wd 6.0 would get 19-20mpg running 70mph in the mountains when it was stock. I then did a lot of mods and it is now getting 17-18mpg at 70mph with a 6" lift and 35" tires. My numbers are hand calculated and adjusted for the tire size. I can easily loose 2mpg by putting my foot into it.
A programmer will help mileage if you can keep your foot out of enjoying the added power. A exhaust and cat delete pipe may also help. You have to drive a lot of miles to pay for these types of additions though. I did them for other reasons.
Ok thanks guys
And when I filled up in MO I bet they are on Winter blend already but I am not sure about TX. Doesn't MPG's go down with Winter Blend fuel?
Been doing a lot of reading thanks for all the info!
I have been looking at the tow mirrors, they will come when the money comes. Now I am just working to get the truck up to my standards. Then the mods will come.
Other questions I have been trying to find are:
When we open the rear door (glass or swing out doors) the interior lights do not come on, are they suppose to? The interior lights come on when we open any of the 4 passenger doors.
And we have a "clunk" type noise in the front end, maybe the sway bar link bushings?
I'd try cleaning the connections and spraying them down with some WD40 on that rear door first, see if it helps any. Mine come on when I open the hatch. And the clunk could possibly be sway bar, I took mine off only to have the clunk remain, I figured it's leaf springs, don't wanna mess with them too much right now, but there are some good write ups for adding some plastic spacers in between to get them to hush up.
Nice Xcursion..... I like the color.... yeah with the diesel you can get some decent mileage.... not like my V-10 that gets a crappy 13.0 on the highway.
Ok thanks guys

There is actually a setting for having the lights come on when you open the back. I had to change mine when I bought it. Can't remember if it was a three position switch in the back or something with the dimmer switch. I'll remind myself and let you know if no one beats me to it. Grills looks great. I plan on swapping in a matte black grille when I put the front end replacement on.
Painted intercoolers don't work as well as they should. Grill looks good!
I took the grill off and apart to paint it, so no paint on the intercooler.?.?
Or are you talking about factory intercoolers in general?

That was an old post. I found the problem with my rear hatch. Someone removed the switches on the latches. I replaced the switches and everything works as advertised. Thanks.
Thanks guys the black grill just adds to a cleaner front end. Never liked the tan grill's. Don't like tan in general.

Ok, it looked to me like you painted it on the truck and painted everything behind it black. I thought from the factory they were bare aluminum like they should be. Looking at the pics of mine now I see that they are painted black from the factory.
