1993 F350 7.3 Diesel with aftermarket Banks Turbo. O/D light started flashing again about a year after replacing the Tach Sensor. Shifting a little hard but not too bad, have left it sitting and have replaced the TPS Sensor, Tach Sensor and still no fix. Husband disconnected the Tach Sensor, turned the truck on it no light flashing, so we figured it was the Tach Sensor. Replaced it last night and and o/d light still flashing. Any suggestions before we send it to mechanic and spend lots of money?
theres a VSS sensor that seems to cause issues in shifting. its on the rear end housing. im sure you'll get a few more responses to it but id hold off on the mechanic trip until you get a little more help here
Maybe check that the TPS is adjusted properly. Connect one wire of a volt meter to ground and then back probe the green wire (center) at the TPS. With key on engine off and throttle at idle you should get 1.1 to 1.4 volts. Move the throttle slowly to wide open and you should get 4 to 4.5 volts. Adjust TPS if necessary.
You also need to make sure that your speedo is reading properly and steady as well as the tach.
After checking all that maybe try disconnecting the battery for 5min to clear any codes and see if that helps.
If light starts flashing again it would be a good idea to read the trouble codes to see what the computer thinks is wrong.
