Mostly I just put it in nuetral and turn the switch works fine. Well until this week. Okay I see the red and light blue on the diagram is that the one I am missing on "I" then. On your phot it looks orange.
Or do you mean the red one to "S" runs through the clutch switch
Okay I think I get it finally Red/lt blu is the one on S that is the ignition switch which has a second clutch switch. The "I" (orange in Photo) is not shown, and I don't care what it does cause it is optional and I do not need it.
I will let you know exact color and gauges tonight.
Guess what I am trying to get to is on the solenoid (starter relay) there are four posts. In your picture you also have four posts. The big ones for the battery and starter sides. And then there are two smaller ones on the engine side, one of which "S" is for the Red wire or ignition wire. What is the other? In your picture you have an orange wire attached to it.
I see everything we have talked about in the diagrams. The diagrams, however, only show 3 posts. The battery, starter, and "S" posts as discussed and understood.
Thanks! Guess I don't have DuraSpark then cause I don't have a white wire.
Everybody
Got everything connected and Bob started right up everything is working great well at least with the starting.
Tested for a current drawl with the switch off as recommended and nothing, whew good news at last. Well I should say that since my tools are in PA and I am in NH there is no major draw, used a tester with a small light bulb and not a voltmeter town, parts store is 45 miles away.
Connected the - Batt to a starter mounting bolt will get a second ground cable from there to the frame soon.
Well I am off to change out the rear brakes. Going to come back to the Column switch later, I'll start a new thread when I am ready.
Thank you all.
PS I will follow up with what ignition system I have since there is no white wire not sure what I am looking for but I have the manuals here.
the Red wire or ignition wire What is the other? In your picture you have an orange wire attached to it.

Well, you have certainly taught me to be more careful when posting a photo.
That photo was of a 76 electrical system.
I thought your was a 76 not an 86.
After taking the photo and posting it,I wnet back to the original post and saw that ou have an 86 which is Different than the 86.
It changed in 1982.
That's why I then deleted the photo and posted the illustrations.
Yeah just traced all the wiring were I could and just for further laughs wan't to share this with you all just about everytime a wire runs through a harness connector it changes color. I am thinking that the harness has been cut and/or changed. After I got it I took it to a shop for some general work and there were so many home spun wires running everywhere in multiple gauges and over/under/around the engine I asked them to clean it up and if necessary to get the correct harness. Well I paid dearly and now I can see that even at that I'll never know for sure where a wire comes from or goes to without tracing it all the way visually.
It is a Duraspark 2 ignition. Does that tell me anything about the engine. I know it is a 460 but no idea what year. Of course as you know it is a carb'ed engine.
I feel much better about the whole thing and much more educated. It is great to know that this great resource exists and that the folks on here are cooperative and patient. I joined a motorcycle forum when I was customizing my bike and wow talk about uptight self righteous people, almost gave up on forums, this is a breath of fresh air.
Mil1lion, Steve83, Sparky, Mike W a hearty thankyou to all.
