Hi all. I just bought a 78 F250 with a 400, and am trying to get it running right. The PO had set the timing at 37 degrees, ant the carb settings were all over the map. I re-built the carb, & re-set the timing to spec.
Now, the truck runs a lot better, but is still rich. I have the mixture screws set at 1 turn out, and am wondering if the PO might have changed the jets... Where can I find out what jets should be in the carb, & where can I source replacements if needed?
Also, I assume the jets are marked? I didn't think to look when I had the carb apart... I will look as soon as I know what should be there.
P.S. I am at sea level in Vancouver, BC if that makes any difference.
sdarring,
the jets are stamped with a number right on them. Can't remember if the numbers are visible when installed. Jet size is related to the bore size which is cast into the front, driver's side of the carb body. Should be something like 1.21, 1.23, etc.
Ask FMC400 or number dummy. Anyone with a parts manual can tell you what they should be with your bore size.
