sorry to hear that you had some scumbag in your truck. Glad to hear all is there. I also keep my tailgate locked as people do steal them. locking things keeps the honest people honest.
Thanks for all the thoughts... I honestly cannot play this out in my head either. I went to recode the keyless at lunch and realized that the thing they took was the card containing the entry code... it was in the clear pocket ... in the owners manual... be aware guys... take it outa there!!
Thieves are not the sharpest tools in teh shed... have you seen some of the dummest thieves videos on TV? but to think they would try this at 6:00 in the morning... again does not make sense.
Here is the result of the "no damage" damages.
New fuse panel for security system contain ing new master code 186.00 (on backorder until ???) and 200.00 in labor to install and reprogram all the keys. ANd insurance will not cover this... no damages and no tangable loss. so when the truck comes up missing they can just pay out 68K for a new one...
Just wanted to add that if you reprogram a keypad to a new number, the factory code stays in memory. So, after reprogramming you can use either the factory code OR the newly programmed code to unlock the truck.
Using a scanner, a thief could capture the code but the code is changed constantly as today's remotes don't use static codes (as noted above). Also, some are encrypted, making the use of a scanner to capture the code impossible.
Do you have a rear slider? Was that jimmied?
Rutcutter's idea about someone at the dealership getting the code sure does scare me. How hard would it be to get the code and an address and then make a late night visit to see what's in the truck? These are high dollar trucks so a thief could see this as an ideal pop.
Just a thought... is it possible that someone was in your truck the night before (before it was locked) and perhaps saw your wife approaching the door and fled at that time? It's possible that something else had your dogs barking (perhaps a stray cat) the next morning.

yep. .but the scumbags took the master code.. so even if he changes to a personal number, the master code still works.
After market alarm was what I was thinking... instead of 400.00 for new master and code... additional alarm... then they cannot get around that.
looked at the rear slider... nothing present as far as tampering.
It truley is a mystery... it is possible that the night before they were in it when she went to verify that is was locked they ran.
As for hounds... better not be barking at no cat... that get points deducted for hunting off game .
little beagle humor...
I played with partialy open door tonight, the horn does sound twice, but the doors go ahead and lock, so that adds to the question of how did they get around the factory alarm.
it is so bizarre, I have even entertained the thought that I walked in my sleep and went out to read more on my new truck!
But I keep getting a chuckle thinking about scum bag thief crapping his drawers, dropping everything on the flloor, and hightailing it out of dodge when the truck automagically started.
Since nothing in the truck but the code card was missing, makes me wonder if they intended to come back, does your truck have garage door opener option?
No... and I was astonoshed about that.
i have a Lariat and as far as I know the sun roof and the garage door opener are the only thing it does not have... but it could be hidden somewhere that I am not aware of.
that is my biggest fear.... they have the code and can get into it when they want...
Bust window in truck, and open the garage door.
How easy!
True... and yet the burglar went to a lot of trouble to avoid doing that. He was already IN the truck, why steal the code? Perhaps he was looking for a duplicate key-maker code like some manufacturers provide to new owners who just leave them in the manual, but settled for the door lock code thinking they were the same. Thought he'd go down to the dealer have a key made and drive away quietly some night later...
