Help with parts.

Received my coverplate from an eBay seller today! Bit scratched, but like I said modifications needed.
As the lefthand drive F100's columns are slightly angled to the left, mine trucks's column is angled to the right (converted righthand drive: New Zealand). What I'd like to do is fill in the left side of the cover. BUT I can ascertain whether the cover is aluminium or cat steel. Can anyone confirm what it's made out of?

These covers our made out of zinc, same type of stuff most all carburetors were once make out of.. Some people call it pot metal, yet others call cast iron pot metal.

Zinc it is!
Did a test on an old column shifter collar. Steel welding burns a hole. Aluminium welding does not adhere to the surface.

If you are inclined to experiment for feasibility. There our some real dangers breathing those fumes, like some other metals when welding them..
This stuff you should be able to use on it for repairs. This is great stuff in IMO it's ez to use too. Sold at many Car Shows & Flea-Markets
Repair aluminum, cast aluminum, pot metal, any leak, crack, hole even thread repair
