transmission
Hey kidsilk and welcome to FTE!
If it's an automatic (and you've checked the fluid and vacuum modulator and they are ok) then some clues are:
-it won't go forward
-slippage when changing gears
-takes a long time to go into gear
-dark red, brown, black fluid is always a bad sign
If it's a manual then:
-vibrations
-will not go into gear
-will not stay in gear
-symptoms could also denote clutch problems
What kind of tranny are we talking about?
Another thing you might try is posting the symptoms in the "transmission forum" sharp tech help there.
what is going on chuck???it is/was doing all of the above. it is a e4od trans. does it even have a modulator???first the trans was rebuilt 1 year ago.First i lost over drive then when i was pulling out of a gas station the only gear i had was first. Now i took it around the block and it shifted into 1,2,3no over drive. Now today i took it and nothing.?????????????????????????????oh yea no reverse.whatcha think chuck?? thank you, gary
The E4OD is fully electronic controlled. Is the O/D light flashing?
Take it to the shop that rebuilt the trans. If you don't feel comfortable with them, find a trans specialist that you can trust.
If it is a E4OD and not the lighter duty AOD, there is a place called Brian's Truck Stop that builds these transmissions to handle modified Power Strokes. They are on the internet but I don't have a link handy.
