There is a forum dedicated to engine swaps here:

Engine Swaps - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

and compelling arguments to stay with the six here:

Ford Inline Six, 200, 250, 4.9L / 300 - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

Besides that you will need lots of time, a radiator, transmission, motor perches from a truck with a v-8 (the inline six perches will not work) and lots of little things will pop up that make you run to the parts store over and over again.

I agree with 6fifty, if you want a project make the switch other wise I'd keep the 6.

Keep the six. If you want more power check out Clifford Performance 6=8 catalogue... The swap is a big job and pretty expensive!

The swap isn't hard or expensive, provided you can get your hands on a complete donor truck. All the little stuff gets expensive.
Mine you, by the time you build up the 300 if it's power you're after, you could have done a V8 swap, especially if you buy parts from Clifford...

What donor truck can he get the 460 and related parts from since he claims to have a 1984 F100? There were no F100's after 1983.

No 460's in F100/150's after 1979. No 460's in any 1980/82 F Series Trucks, Econolines only.

460 re-introduced in F250/350's in 1983.

The largest V8 offered in 1980/83 F100's = 302.

There are other parts you will need but most can be found. Driveshaft may be smaller, perches sometimes. I did a 6 to a 390 swap and the only thing I had to do was move the perches. All depends on the two trucks...

I never even noticed he said 84 F100... Either way, an 83+ F250/350 is what he needs for a donor.
