I have a '80 F350 w/ dual tanks. Anyways I switched tanks the other day and my fuel guage quit working.
I check the fuse panel and none are blown. And the selector valve still works. This is pretty much a bare bones truck and I don't have a manual.
If the guage only works on one tank, you can assume the sending unit is bad in that tank. If the fuel guage won't work at all after you switched tanks, try working the dash switch up and down very rapidly. This fixed mine for awhile, till the switch went completely out.

The guage doesn't work at all on either tank. So it is probably the tank selector switch? Wonder what one costs? This thing eats entirely too much fuel not to have a working guage.
The switch is a simple DPDT switch, but in an automotive-style housing. If you can't/don't want to get an OE replacement, you can get a toggle from Radio Shack (even 2 SPDTs) or Wal-Mart and wire it up yourself. Get a $12 Haynes manual and check out the wiring diagrams in the back.
Before you get into spending for a new switch you may want to get a can of electrical contact cleaner and spray it on the contacts and parts of your present switch. Then work the switch several times then reapply the cleaner. It has done the job for me several times on various switches and relays. It is mostly used in electronic equipment for switches, relays, etc. A lot of times automotive switches won't work because the contacts and mechanisms are gunked up and dirty but not broken.
