I just changed my fuel filters for the first time last night, boy was that fun!. Top oil and fuel filters are a nice change yes but that lower frame filter wow what a pain in the *** they made that. Sure 1 ft away you had wide open frame to install the unit nooo, thanks for putting it right behind a cross member, and if that wasn't thoughtful enough you made sure to place not one but two fuel lines in the way. Thanks for letting me use every extension i own and go buy one more to get the job done. Oh yeah and not to forget those really neat 1 7/16th socket plastic caps, hell i had one of those just laying around in my tool box.
Its definitely a terrible location. I know the E-series uses a vertical filter setup instead of the horizontal and it's much easier to work with.. don't know why they don't use that on all of them.

On my Bronco, I can reach in over the tire and loosen the fuel filter in about 30 seconds.
One of the good things about an inline configuration!
That is because your running a REAL diesel engine. Bet you don't have buy crap for the exhaust gases either, or whatever this new pieces require to run.
You do need to prime it. It is asking for trouble if you don't.
If you think you have to prime the fuel system on these trucks, you have no idea what priming used to entail. Turing the key on a couple of times and waiting for the pump to shut off? Not exactly a burden.
