I have the first gen lightining and I really want to get away from I beams. Is there a whole A arm and cross member conversion kit out there for it or a mustang cross to replace it. I'm pretty good with steel and tools so diy isn't a problem. I'll take any suggestions!
I think that I read "somewhere" a long time ago... about using a late 70s full size Ford double A-arm set up on 80s-90s Ford trucks. But it wasn't on this site.
However, you might do a search for Crown Vic front end conversion (here on FTE) & take a look at it. It might be close to our track width & feasible.
Welcome to FTE & don't worry about the spelling police.
Lmao. I'm usually a great speller but my iPhone jacked me up on that one. I appreciate all the feedback and I will check into the crown Vic. I was thinking about have the same guys that do the mustang hub to hub crossmember just build one. Dream beams are cool and all but I'm doing a frame off and want it as custom as possible
Anything mustang is going to be just too light. The CV is a complete package. 1 peice, cast aluminum (from 03 up), power rack & pinion, double A arms and no having to try and build in the correct geometry. Weld in some plates to bolt the thing in & go. If there is a width difference, a correct off-set on the wheels should take care of equaling the rear track. Some folks are paying as little $300-$600 for the assembly at their salvage yards.
I hate to shoot somebody down but why would you want to cut up a perfectly good limited production Gen 1 Lightning like that? I have owned two Gen 1 Lightnings, both of them handled like a dream and had some great power for the day.
To each their own, but a part of me is screaming inside whenever this thread rises to the top of the list. I wish you luck, now I need to go cry in my beer some more.

I know I know. It seems everyone is confused about this but like I said I want something completely custom and functionable that will set this satin black lightining apart from all the rest. Don't worry guys I'm still ford true there will be only the best for "Deebo"! I'm fixing to start the tear down process I will be uploading Picts and progress. It seems all are pretty interested in this. Thanks for your support and replys.
