engine I.D.
I just purchase a converted chevy truck with what I was told a Ford F250 four wheel drive frame and running gear. I was told the motor is a 460 big block Ford. Every time I show someone the engine, the response I get is BIG-EYES and if I want to sell the motor or the entire truck. SO, I wander what is up with the engine. You can tell that it is an old motor. Under all the grease and dirt I can see Cobra LeMans on the valve covers. So here is my question is;" Where is the I.D. numbers or special marks or castings on the marks?"

Searching for valve covers, I find "Cobra Le Mans" units for FE motors, and maybe small blocks--Ford did run 289s at Le Mans after all.
I also find adaptors to put FE covers on Windsor motors:
Windsor Valve Covers
And 385 series covers that say "cobra".
The easiest way to tell if your engine is an FE is to look at the intake manifold. If it is covered by the Valve cover, it is an FE.

You may also be showing it to other chevy guys that don't have a clue.
