Noticed this noise a couple weeks ago, havent noticed it much since probably because i have music on. Anyways, today I was sitting in truck with it idleing and hear it again, fairly loud too...I turn off heater, open dash anything to see if it alters the sound, but doesnt. It also does it with key on/engine off.
Il try to describe the sound, I also have a sound clip from iphone ill upload soon..... It basically sounds like a cd/dvd player reading a disc, or like an xbox reading a disc. I cant describe it any other way.
I place phone between dash and glovebox, and then down bottom of dash.
I know exactly what you are referring to. It is sort of a low pitch creaking sound. I traced mine to it being the movement of the ac/heat vent doors, even though it will do it with the air off. If youll lower your glove box and listen for it, its right there inside the air box. There is a procedure for getting the models with the EATC to do a self diagnostic, where you hold down a couple of buttons and it will move all the actuator doors and flash any codes on the screen, and when you do that you can tell its the same sound of the doors moving. I just cant remember the buttons to hold down to put the EATC system through this self test
I couldn't get ur noises to play on my computer but if it sounds like morse code happening its a door actuator, mine was doing that. Required a dash off to change to actuator....hope you still have warranty. Also mine was blowing hot on the passenger side and the driver side was blowing cold even though they were set on the same temps. (have dual control temp control btw.) Hope that gives some insight, if not sorry.
Im glad I read this. My truck sat for about 2 weeks and just started doing this. I thought a mouse got in the duct work or something when I first heard it. LOL
Hahah, yeah it sounds like little elfs in there tinkering away at something.
Im gonna stop by dealer and get someone to come out and listen to it, see what they say.
Mine has been doing that. Thought I was hearing things.mine is right hand drive with a dash conversion but must be some of the original gear in there doing it. It will be interesting to find out what it is

Mine is doing the same thing. It has been in the shop twice. I am now waiting for the dealer to get me a truck so they can work on it once again. At first, only cool air blew from the driver's side and hot from the passengers. At least the dealer got the truck so warm air would blow from the driver's side. However, there is a 15 degree difference from each side. I hear that clicking sound not all the time but many times.
Yeah! Morse code, thats a good diagnoses. I still have warranty, but not for much longer. Ill get em to look at it soon.
Thanks!
Had, what sounds, like the same thing on my 09 350. Intermitent and annoying. (If I remember correctly, it also would also do it after the key had been turned off) Took it to the dealer. the tech came out, listened, said that it was an acc motor for the climate/defost system located behind the nav system and that they have replaced a few of them. Seemed to know immediatley what it was, like is was becoming a common problem. Was covered completley under warrenty.
Thanks Cabela for your input, sounds like it isnt a few and far between thing. I still havent had a chance to swing by ford yet. Hopefully soon, I might even get em to look when Im down south next weekend, too damn cold here (-30c w/wind!)
Just read this thread, I know this thread is a little old but, I have the same noise's coming from the same general area. I notice it more if the key is in the on position with the engine shut off. When I get back in town I will be taking it to Ford to hopefully fix it. If anyone has found a fix or that elusive combination of things to do to get the codes and diagnostics, that would be great. I'll let you know what I find out with Ford.
