I recently installed a JVC El Khameleon CD Player in my 2000 F-150. When I took out the old cassette player I noticed that there were 2 connectors instead of one. In doing some reading online, I found out that the smaller of the 2 was for the amplifier. My question is this. I hooked up the new player to just the larger connector with a wiring harness and it seems to work fine. What, if any, benefit would I get if I used the amplifier that Ford provided? The only thing that doesn't work as advertised is the dimmer for the radio, any ideas on that?
As far as the amp is, your JVC probably has mre power than your factory amp, so there may be not benefit to use your factory amp. Now as for the dimmer, make sure you hooked up your dimmer wire from the harness, it should be orange with a black or white stripe. If you did, and it still doesnt work, try the illumination wire also.
