Windshield wiper problem?

Hello all.

I think I have a simple one for you. I have a 65 CC Short box. When I bought the truck the prior owner mentioned, rather quickly, that it had a small water leak when it rained. Well it's always been garage kept so I didn't really notice. Well I found out a few days ago just how bad this small leak was. Needless to say, I started looking around and finally noticed that the passenger side WS wiper was loose and it was directly in front of the defroster vent (Passenger side) which happened to be over a bracket leading to where the water was coming from. I know, long-winded (waiting for pizza delivery). Anyway. I started looking at tightening the nut and it looks like you need a spanner wrench of some type to do it. Has anybody put one in before, what should I look for when doing it (seals, caulk, gotcha's).

BTW, Thank God it wasn't the cowl vent. (I have old mustang/fairlane too). Any help would be appreciated. Pizza's here, gotta go.

Thanks,

JamesH.

Windshield wiper problem?

I just got done fixing this problem on my 66 last week. I used a craftsman grip wrench to remove the assembly. mine was leeking because the gasket was dry rotted so i made a new one out of a piece of inner tube rubber and it seems to be working fine.

Windshield wiper problem?

I have successfully used two flat blade screwdrivers as a spanner wrench. Place one in each slot, cross the blades and turn. If you feel you must buy one look in the plumbing sections.

I used a short section of pipe then marked all four slots and cut them out with a rotory tool (Drumell) and drilled a hole on the other end to slip a screw drive through.
I got tired of retightening the dam thing so i used a ruber oring under the nut it sealed my leak and nut stays tight.

Best of luck.

PS: those nuts crack easyly from what i've seen in junk yard tring to get them off.
