Head gasket leaking

Head gasket leaking
2000 V10 4x4 Excursion
Right rear cylinder ( #9 I think ) is leaking oil,between the head and the top of engine block.
Thinking about changing head gasket with motor still in the engine compartment. Was wondering if anyone has done this job ?, and how big of headache was it.
Or should I remove the motor ?
Any suggestions would be great
