Good Ole HPOP Question

so i changed the water pump last spring. I had to trim a little of the permatex gasket sealer on the hpop inspection plate that is behiend and just above the water pump. Its a egg shaped plate with 2 bolts on either side. Since then i have had a slow oil leak nothing major at all. oil is all over from the hpop down in the front of the motor. Not leakin in the vally just all in the front. it looks like the leak is comming from the top of the water pump to the left side when looking in. Im bout to clean it so i can trace the leak. so heres my question in the mean time
# 1. Now if its comming from the inspection plate can i pop that plate off and put new gasket sealer on it?

# 2. if so do i need to drain the oil or will any oil come pouring out?

# 3. also how do i check the oil in the hpop, how much should i have and if its low how do i add?

Yes. It is literally that easy.

No. Oil does not sit there. It simply sloshes around on the gears when the engine is running, but does not pool up behind that cover.

You can check the oil level in the HPOP by popping off the inspection bolt (a torx bolt) on the top right-hand side of the reservoir. However, you shouldn't have to add any oil. If you do, then it's a sign of a problem. Oil level should be somewhere within an inch from the top.

On my e99, the inspection bolt is a " 3/16" - allen bolt" type.. Just remove it last week to pump out the pump..
