My truck has been and continues to run great, but I have a concern. When cold starting the truck will smoke blue, and will do so until warm. I have had this problem for a while so I have been keeping track of the oil level and I dont use a drop between changes.
I have no rough run symptoms, it still gets good fuel mileage, and all seems normal on my guages. It doesnt matter if the tune is in it or out of it it will do it no matter what. I was thinking an injecor was going bad, and yes I know blue means oil, however with no rough run situation I am not sure. Maybe and injector seal? If so How do I narrrow it down or do I replace all of them?
Would the turbo seal being bad cause this, where should I start my diagnosis. Like I said only happens when cold, the truck doesnt matter the temp, but it seems a little worse with the temps dropping over night.
The cat. is also gone but I dont think that has anything to do with it.
I have the exact same problem.. Tuned or stock I get a blueish smoke at idle when cold. Also the smoke has a raw fuel smell that will burn your eyes. Just like yours, when good and warm no smoke.
Mine smoked like that 2 days ago when i had my innovative "Street" tune on it after sitting all night and then yesterday i switched to the "Xtreme Street" and no smoke today and it was actually colder last night than it was 2 days ago, i just figured it had something to do with injector timing or something like that.
cheezit... thats what I am thinking..do you think I have injector problems?? Truck runs great. I don't know what to think, its kinda embarrassing to run in the coffe shop in the am and come out and see blue smoke around my truck. Had the dealer check codes and none came up.
ya just becasue you cant fill the misfire does not mean the pcm cant adjust for it by pulling fuel from a different injector.
best thing would be power balance test using inhanced mode. would need to be done when the engine is cold.
Thats what I was thinking too Cheez. The only other concern I have is my coolant ntemp is never above 184*...so I was thinking I would replace the t-stat, and update the FP spring with the new revised kit.
I know this isnt the root cause of my issue but my AE software hasnt come yet, and I was thinking of updating my injectors anyway, also a Garret powe max turbo.
As as posted before I changed to xtreme street and no more smoke.
But the truck is running good, so when my software comes I will do a power balance when cold. I asked the dealer to do this last year but I think they were doing it while warm.
I havent had a chance to power balance the truck yet, but I was told that the test can be done with the MAC mentor...which I have and never looked into it. I guess I have to get motivated to do it and get the smoke out of the truck so it doesnt look like a turd going down the road.
sarge... call me crazy but I put in one bottle of rev x a week or so ago and now I don't have any more blue smoke. I never dreamed that it would work but it did for me. It took a few hund. miles but it worked. Prob. just a quick fix but better than nothing.. Thought I would let you know. Please let us know what your injector balance? test says.
My 2006 is has blue-ish smoke also, big puff when I take off from a stop light. Also runs rough/shudders at different rpm's when driving or in park. Just got truck back from head gasket job and I called dealer on the way home and told them I will be bringing truck back cuz it didn't do this when I brought it to them. What do u think cheezit?
The reason is because the 6.0l has hydraulic injectors and when its cold come oil seeps into the fuel and gets burned until the engine warms up enough and the seals expand so no oil leaks in

You probly haveinjector issues or the truck wsnt assembled properly. It shouldnt shudder or miss, you need to get it backs ASAP.
