Well ...

I TRY very hard to get back here and check my stuff ...

... but the time constraints on a starving 60 year old college student are HUGE. I am done with all of the academic courses for my (Associate degree) CTE teaching degree ... and now I find myself in the unusual situation of taking basic automotive courses ... after being an auto mechanic (including service manager and shop owner) for over 28 years.

I am REALLY SORRY to those who have tried to reach me via PM's on this site.

In that vein:

Curtis: Anytime you got a backfire through the carb on on acceleration ... you got a lean miss. Because it happens while you are in a corner ... because of my racing background ... I would look at any problem in the carb that would prevent fuel delivery "RIGHT NOW" ... or something "turning off and turning on" ignition while the G's build up in the corner.

There was another person that wanted to know about Porsche Replicas. Many of them are VERY good. Even after almost 30 years of fooling around with Porsche ... there are some fiberglas 356 replicas that fool me! Many of them are VERY GOOD. Remember ... the Porsche (and VW) chassis and etc were VERY simple and very easy to make. Although the body may not have stood the test of time ... the COMPONENTS ... the suspension, the engine and trans, the brakes and etc ... were WONDERFUL and FULL OF CHARACTER ... the fiberglas bodies are only a skin that you can hold all the wonderful in.

BTW ... I used to race against 356 Porsches in SCCA E Prod MGB's. I spend a LOT of time staring at the taillights of the lighter 356 on the straights ... but I could ALWAYS catch them in the twisty bits.

This has been a VERY humbling year for me.

When I was in High school I wanted to teach ... but we were in a war back in 1969 ... and I enlisted into the Army when I graduated school.

When I got out (6 years later) I had a family ... and college just wasn't in the cards for me.

But I always wanted to teach.

Now I just turned 60 and I'm finally getting my chance.

I got almost all my acedemics done ... and so far ... I'm pulling a 4.0 (even with algebra!!!). The only academic class I got is Physics. Everything else (about 4 semesters) is Auto Tech .... and all the ASE Certs that I never thought I would EVER need.

Sorry to waste you time ... but I just figured out that there were a number of you looking for me.

BTW ...

I don't know how to "be a friend" on this site.

Send me another PM ... and I'll try to get back to you.

BTW II ... check this out ... see if you can spot the "oddshot"...

Oddshot,

I sent you a Friend Request, you should have a bold purple link in the upper RH corner of
your screen, something like Notifications 1 or something like that.

Click that link, it will take you to a screen where you can read the full text, I think you have
to put a check mark in a box and then push a button to accept the invitation.

Something like that.

I asked about the porsches. I found a guy a few years back in Knoxville, Tennessee that makes 356 replicas with a custom steel frame, 4 wheel disc, and subaru powered. They are fine. They floorpans are made to accommodate a 6 foot five inch person. My wife and I almost bought one, but decided to wait after the hurricane. I am glad we did. The economy really took a turn. Everything goes up but our salaries.
