In preparation of putting my truck back together I have a few questions. I have new Ford OEM boots for the hot side. What torque is correct for the clamps, the cold plastic pipe says 17 N/m, is this correct for the blue boots? I never had trouble with the tube blowing off, but I'm wondering if I should get new clamps, both hot and cold side? My clamps seem ok, the sliding metal shield part has a few dimples in it. I'm not sure why they are there. Someone also drilled holes in one clamp and stapled the boot to the clamp?......
Thanks!
the factory boots on some models are stapled to the boot. the technical spec says 9 lb ft is the torque on the clamp but I usually just use a 1/4" air ratchet and tighten them. They never have came off on me like that before. I'd say 20 lb ft is what the air ratchet torques it to. You can use a ratchet and just get it slightly more than hand tight. Most of the time, you can use the clamps again unless they are deformed or bent. Make sure you put the clamp in between the two white lines on the boot and you should be fine.
