5th wheel opinions
No, I have not weighed the truck, trailer or the combo yet, although I would like to. I did quite a bit of research before buying the truck and fifth wheel. Keystone rates the hitch or pin weight at 2390 lbs while the empty trailer weight is 11,246 lbs. I used these as guidelines only and expected more weight. It's a sweet ride with or without the 5'er but hitched up the bed drops about three inches. As a matter of preference to bring the bed back to level I installed Firestone Ride Rite air bags (#2535). TruckAddon.com had a great price at $235 shipped. Anyway, we'll test the whole thing out in couple day with a trip to Death Valley.
Hope this helps.
With the pin weight over 2200 lbs in your case, are you maxing out the GAWR?? I would think you'd have to be pretty close? Maybe I'm still struggling with the math used to calculate the pin/axle/GVWR relationship. I'm figuring I've got max 1500 lbs at the pin on a F-250 with the 10k package...assuming the truck is at 8500 lbs loaded with family and gear for a hard days worth of play.
Flaws in my figuring??? Anyone?
Also, absolutely agree on the airbags, will be the first after-market add when I finally take the plunge! (maybe some bumper boing too...pushbar or the like)
Thanks again!
