Exclamation Really need help!

I have a 2001 7.3 powerstroke. Has had an oil leak for awhile (bought it that way) It was running fine. Running it all day I had and incident with a severe bog down and loss of power. I let it sit for about 15 minutes. It fired up and ran fine. After this, I would run it about 2 hours then get the same bog down. Let it sit and fire it right back up. Then it got to the point of bogin down every 15 miles. Now the truck doesnt start at all! Ok. So I checked the fuel pump and it was not pumpin fuel. Replaced it. Still not pumpin fuel. Replaced the sensor under the water pump. Replaced the fuel filter. Droped the tank. Screens are clear. Dont know what to do anymore Does it have anything to do with the oil leak?

Is your fuel pump getting power? If you put in a new pump and the screen is clear you should be getting fuel. There is always a chance that the new pump isn't pulling the fuel from the tank too.

Make sure you check the fuses since you replaced the pump, it may have blown.

Also there is the fuel cut-off switch in the passenger kick panel, make sure it didn't trip for some odd reason.

Something else to check that is simple is unplug the engine oil temp (EOT) sensor. It is located on the backside of the HPOP reservoir. If it goes bad and tells the PCM the temp is too high it will sometimes cause issues like you mention. It usually will not kill power to the fuel pump though.

I am assuming you say it is not pumping because you have no fuel at the fuel bowl..if this is true........

do you have power to the pump?

if yes........are the lines clear from the pump to the tank? I have heard of the fuel supply line cracking between the tank and the frame on the way to the pump, is it cracked? if no...........are the lines clear from the pump to the fuel bowl?

checked

Ive checked all the fuses. I checked the shut off switch on the passenger side. The tank has fuel and there is power to the pump. Engine light is not on. Wait to start is coming on and shuting off normal.

I Also blew out all the fuel lines to make sure there were no obstructions. Droped the tank and the screen is clear.

If the pump is running, I would disconnect the inlet hose and run a piece of tubing to a container with some diesel in it. See if it is picking up and pumping fuel. That will eliminate the tank, and if it picks it up you will know if it goes to the filter bowl.

Have you checked the fuel pressure regulator to make sure it is not stuck open or something?

Just so you know, the screen you can easily see isn't usually the problem. Its the little screens in the mixing chamber that get clogged.

The two screens do get clogged up, but they are on the return side of the fuel. Since the return line enters the mixing chamber through the small hose in your picture, the fuel is getting strained before it gets mixed. That is why the debris is on the inside. The return fuel goes from the inside out in the mixing chamber.

It is a valid point, that something inside could be plugged, or drawing air, this would cause the pump to not pull a good vacuum and get the fuel to the pump.

ok. i may sound like a dumb #@$ but the pictures your showing are of the can inside the tank? is there filters beyond the filter? sorry ive worked and build thousands of older truck but im new to the diesel. Sounds like I deffinately have a fuel problem. I just need to figure it out. Ill try the line in the fuel can this evening. If that works do i drop the tank again?

Also. My truck is a 7.3. The only filters it has are the one on top of the block and the one in the tank. I followed all the lines and there is no other filters.

No, they are on the infeed side.

Remove the fuel cap. Disconnect the infeed line from the fuel pump. Use compressed air and blow through the infeed line into the fuel tank. Listen for the air to bubble in the tank for a minute or so. Reconnect the line to the pump. Cycle the ignition switch a few times then try starting the engine.

Mine was horribly clogged when i did the intank mods. It clogged and shut me down twice before i did the mods.

This could be your issue, but dropping the tank you would have already checked this.
How much fuel is in the tank? If the foot is split and broken off as mine was, a low amount of fuel in the tank cannot be picked up by the lines. It can suck air even though the gauge registers low fuel in the tank. In effect, you have run out of fuel.

Thanks a million for all the info! I took the tank down again and found that the 2 screens were plugged up beyond beleif. Cleaned them up and put it back together. Fired up! Only one more issue. Im still leaking oil. Im trying to track the leak down. seams to be coming from the back of the engine between the trany and engine. High pressure line or HPOP?
