hey everyone i am back after a long vacation, time to get back to work on my 60 ford stepside. got a problem trying to figure out how to lengthen the push rod on my volare master cylinder to make the brakes work?. or do i need to change out the stock brake pedal assembly?
i am a old user here under 60ford, can't get logged back in that way, any help on that as well?
You could cut it and weld or braze a piece in to lengthen it. I don't have a good feel for how strong a brazed butt joint is, so I'd make a lap joint or something stronger before brazing, just to be sure.
That has got to be easier than changing out the whole brake pedal assembly.
I lengthened the rod in a 32 Ford some years back by buying a piece of stock metal rod. The kind you can get at any hardware store. Just get some stock the same diameter as the rod and cut it to whatever length you need, round the ends a bit on the grinder and that's all there is to it. Just be careful you don't get the rod too long. If you get it too long, the piston in the MC will not go back far enough to allow the fluid to return (been there and done that)!
